It is the news Royal Watchers have been waiting for! Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge have confirmed they are expecting a baby.
Clarence House released the following statement to ET Canada: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.”
William’s late mother Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, offered his congratulations to his nephew and Kate in a statement: “It is wonderful news and I am thrilled for them both.”
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is also clearly excited about the news, releasing the following message for the royal couple on Twitter: “Laureen and I congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their wonderful news #royalbaby”
Kate is currently suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, known as very acute morning sickness, which requires supplementary hydration and nutrients.
The official statement from the Palace continued: “The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.”
St. James’ Palace spokesman also tells us that the Duchess’ current condition has resulted in the cancellation of her events for the week and weekend.
Meanwhile, during the couple’s trip to Singapore as part of the Diamond Jubilee Tour in September, William revealed he would like to have two children with the Duchess.
Stay tuned to ET Canada for this developing story.
