‘Sarah Silverman: Children’s Entertainer’ isn’t something I thought I’d ever see. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of both animated features AND Sarah – but never really pictured the two of them going together. I never would have imagined any Disney exec saying ‘you know what this kids movie really need? Sarah Silverman’. She’s a master of brilliantly crafted, yet wildly offensive humour and has made a living off profanity. In fact, she’s one of the best dirty comics of our generation.

But really? Sarah Silverman’s in a Disney movie? Like for kids?

One thing you should know about Sarah, keeping her on topic during an interview is almost impossible. One thing you should know about me, I love getting people off topic during interviews. The morning of my one-on-one I was pulled aside and ‘asked’ not to bring up politics with her. I mean I get it, Disney is a family brand – for ALL families, and Sarah’s political views are polarizing. It made sense. I didn’t agree to not ask, but simply said ‘I’d do my best’.

When I expressed my shock at Sarah’s addition with the director he was quick to bring up Eddie Murphy. Good point, but Donkey and Delirious were decades apart. Eddie had all but grown out of his dirty stand-up phase by the time he re-invented himself in Shrek. Sarah is dirty NOW! A quick YouTube search bring up her latest political rant – a candid and filthy take on the voter registration issue in America. THIS is what they didn’t want me to bring up. Fair enough.

Sarah didn’t totally agree that she was an odd fit for a Disney movie, but did admit she didn’t think it would ever be an option.

In Wreck-It Ralph Sarah plays a misfit video game character with a ‘glitch’. She doesn’t fit in, gets bullied and has no friends. But she’s also a total brat! She’s a foul mouthed, stubborn, teasing, manipulating little girl with a wicked sense of humor. Get what I’m getting it here? Basically this is mini Sarah! And when I asked how much of Venelope was her as a little kid? Without taking a breath she shot back with “100%! That was totally me!” And guess what? She’s one of the coolest and strongest female characters you’ll see all year.

Oh, and no we didn’t talk politics, however within three minutes of our interview she did drop one of the dirtiest words in the English language. She then apologized… Aaaaand said it again.
