The daring white Tom Ford gown Gwyneth Paltrow wore to the Academy Awards in February was so simple with its clean lines, yet so standout with its flowing cape. And it was this risque look that wowed fashion critics and helped her seal the deal as People‘s Best Dressed Woman of 2012.

“She doesn’t do fringe,” her stylist Elizabeth Saltzman tells People. “She has a uniform… it’s simple, not overdone.” Which is exactly how she looked at the TIFF premiere of Thanks For Sharing, in Tom Ford again, this time in black.

Coming in at a close second is the equally elegant Diane Kruger, who was chosen for her on-trend high fashion looks. Kate Middleton, Emma Stone and Reese Witherspoon also make People‘s top 10. While Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba join celebs honoured for their casual style. And the Kardashians, who always cause a sensation, shake it up again by nabbing the number 10 spot.

“Best Dressed Men” honours go to seven dapper guys well suited to style including Andrew Garfield, Brad Pitt, Robert Pattinson, Jay-Z, Chris Hemsworth, Liam Hemsworth and Colin Firth.
