Nolan Gerard Funk is the latest Canadian to land a gig on Global’s hit series Glee and he’s giving some credit to fellow Canuck Cory Monteith for his good fortune!
When we sat down with Nolan in Los Angeles he recalled his recent run-in with his old pal. “I ran into Cory one night, the night before my audition for Glee,” he reveals, smiling. “He was on his way to pick up Lea (Michele) from the airport and then the next day I went in and got Glee, so maybe he was the luck involved in getting the job.”
In the show Nolan plays Hunter Clarington – the new captain of The Warblers – the biggest rivals to the New Directions! The young actor says he loves playing a conniving character: “I think any role that sort of allows you to step outside the box and maybe be a little more assertive than you would be in real life is nice.”
But unlike his character, Nolan admits that being the newbie on set was definitely daunting: “I was a little intimidated going in just because it’s such a well established show, but everybody… was just so welcoming.”
In addition to Glee, the actor is carving out a career for himself in film. He’s starring in the racy thriller The Canyons with Lindsay Lohan and tells us he’s really enjoying the fact he gets to sink his teeth into a variety of roles.
“Working on… an edgy film like that and then getting to do something amazing like Glee, that everybody recognizes and knows, I just feel really lucky to be able to work in so many different genres,” the star admits.
You can see more of Nolan tonight on ET Canada and of course on Glee!
