Famous for creating her stage alter egos, Nicki Minaj appears in the March Power Issue of Vogue dressed in leggings, a custom Versace for H&M jacket and a Marilyn Monroe-inspired fuchsia wig.
But opening up in an intimate interview with Vogue, she reveals the alternate side to that on-stage persona.
It wasn’t always a glamorous lifestyle for the songstress who was born in Trinidad. Nicki moved to Queens when she was five-years-old before attending LaGuardia high school for the performing arts. “I was dressing in Tommy Hilfiger baggy shirts and Boss jeans, but then I met a person who dressed like a tiny lady – pantsuits, heels, lots of makeup. I thought she was larger than life. She once did my makeup – I had never seen myself made up before. I didn’t want to wash it off; I felt like I had one day to live this fantasy of being a glamour girl.”
And even though she has made it in the music business, with three Grammy nominations, she says she still has fantasies of a different life. The 29-year-old tells the magazine she sometimes imagines herself clad in a bikini and high heels, cooking dinner for a breadwinning husband.
