I don’t think there’s a person in the world who doesn’t know the song Ice Ice Baby. Am I right?

But chances are, you won’t be able to recall another Vanilla Ice song. I don’t mean that to be mean, it’s just a fact.

We call these people “One-Hit Wonders” and it’s usually a derogatory moniker. But why should it be? You’re still a Wonder!

Ice Ice Baby was the first hip hop song to ever top the Billboard Charts.  That was 22 years ago… Rob Van Winkle was in his early 20s.

So, I’m sitting down with Rob to talk about the second season of Canada Sings – on which he will reprise his role as celebrity judge. But, as an interviewer, I am compelled to ask Rob about that song. It’s a topic he’s discussed countless times over the last two decades, so I feel a little callous when I have to be the millionth person to go there. But, you know I just HAVE to!

Thankfully, Rob was great about it. He didn’t shy away from talking about it all. To my amusement, he actually started singing it! I felt bad because I didn’t know all the words by heart and couldn’t partake, so I just shoulder-danced along from my chair. The fact is he knows that people loved that song. People STILL love that song.  It brings him joy to see people singing his song. And, in the interest of full disclosure, I had my own moment of joy as soon as he said: “All right stop, collaborate and listen. Ice is back with my brand new invention.”

Watch my interview with Vanilla Ice on tonight’s ET Canada.
