Katy Perry appears on the cover of Italian L’Uomo Vogue magazine dressed in an ornate jacket and shirt, revealing that she wants to emulate another successful pop artist.
“I think Madonna,” she admits. “Especially early in her career, when she was laying the foundations of her character has been able to evolve constantly, managing to give the audience at every appearance a new visual interpretation and concept of herself.”
With her playful array of kitschy style stage outfits, this should come as no surprise. “She was able to keep up the interests of the people, because you never know… what she would come out with the next time,” Katy adds.
The Wide Awake singer is well on her way to accomplishing her goal, with her last album Teenage Dream becoming the second album (after Michael Jackson’s Bad) to spawn five number one singles on the U.S. Billboard charts.
The singer-songwriter, who has been very busy promoting her 3D movie Katy Perry: Part of Me dropping into various cities and surprising fans with advanced screenings, also shares her views on same sex marriage.
“I believe in equality. I believe in love without any limits,” Katy says. “I hope that one day we will look to this period somewhat as today we look to the period of the civil rights struggle of blacks in America in the ’60s, which is a mixture of shame and how we are happy for the progress made.”
