The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, took her baby bump on its first official outing and to say the international press went wild would be a major understatement.
Aside from photos that surfaced of William and Kate on a private holiday on the beach in Mustique, Kate’s visit to South London marks the first time the royal baby bump has been seen in public, and hopefully it won’t be the last.
Still glowing from her babymoon, Kate waved cheerfully at the enormous wall of press photographers who arrived to capture the first photos of her bump on business.
And the business in question? The Duchess was in South London visiting Hope House, a 22 bed all-female residential facility for recovery charity Action on Addiction. And proving that we’ll have plenty of Kate Middleton style throughout this pregnancy, the mom-to-be wore a grey wrap dress by MaxMara.
But the press wasn’t entirely transfixed with Kate’s bump. Nick Barton, the chief executive of Action on Addiction, told reporters Kate was an “intelligent woman who is proving to be a huge asset to the causes she backs” dismissing a previous statement from Hilary Mantel about The Duchess.
The writer and double Booker Prize winner, took aim at Kate in a lecture about Royalty last week, saying she is “a jointed doll, on which rags are hung” perceived as having “no personality of her own, entirely defined by what she wore”.
