The paparazzi have had more than a couple nasty run-ins with Justin Bieber, including a high speed car chase in July that prompted LA city councilman Dennis Zine to predict that eventually these encounters would turn deadly.
Unfortunately enough, Zine’s prediction has become a reality. A photographer who thought he spotted Justin sitting in his parked Ferrari was struck by oncoming traffic as he walked across a Los Angeles freeway.
California Highway Patrol officers had pulled over Justin’s vehicle Tuesday evening at an off-ramp, when the photographer spotted the car he parked his own car, and crossed the freeway to get closer to the action. Officers told the man twice to return to his car, when a motorist struck the photographer who was on his way back to his own car.
Justin wasn’t in the car at the time of the accident. One of his friends was driving, while another friend was in the passenger seat, but the singer has released a statement saying: “While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim. Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders and the photographers themselves.”
And Justin’s not the only celebrity speaking out on the topic, Miley Cyrus tweeted ” Hope this paparazzi/JB accident brings on some changes in ’13 Paparazzi are dangerous! Wasn’t Princess Di enough of a wake up call?! It is unfair for anyone to put this on to Justin’s conscious as well! This was bound to happen! Your mom teaches u when you’re a child not to play in the street! The chaos that comes with the paparazzi acting like fools makes it impossible for anyone to make safe choices.”
So what do you think? Could this accident have been prevented if there were strict laws set in place to deal with the paparazzi? Tweet us your thoughts.
