Judi Dench, recently revealed that she’s been diagnosed with macular degeneration, and has lost part of her eyesight which makes it difficult for her to read scrips and recognize people’s faces.
“I can’t read scripts anymore because of the trouble with my eyes. Somebody comes in and reads them to me, like telling me a story,” she told Britain’s Daily Mirror.
When the news came out over the weekend, there was widespread concern for the 77-year-old British actress. The news spread so wide, that Dench had to release a statement to appease people’s worry over her health. She told Reuters on Monday:
“In response to the numerous articles in the media concerning my eye condition – macular degeneration- I do not wish for this to be over blown.
This condition is something that thousands and thousands of people all over the world are having to contend with….and its something I have learnt to cope with and adapt to – and it will not lead to blindness
Thank you for you concern. “
