True Blood’s resident wolf-man, Joe Manganiello is about to have a howling good summer.
The actor, who not only reprises his role on the wildly popular HBO hit for Season 4, but is giving his fans a double dose of topless time starring as Big Dick Richie in Magic Mike is currently steaming up the pages of the July issue of Men’s Health UK.
On his hard road to success, the humble hunk explains how his muscular physique was initially a barrier in getting roles: “I got to LA in 2000, when we were coming of the ‘90s: women looked like men and the men all looked like women. I was constantly being told ‘you’re too healthy,’ so there were four years where I essentially didn’t work as an actor.”
“I think we’re seeing a return to ‘the Man,’” the Pittsburgh Steelers mega-fan says of his theory on Hollywood’s new school of leading men. “People come up to me and say they miss those silent, tough guys like Clint Eastwood and Steve McQueen. You’ve still got to be able to act and emote but you also have to fit the role physically, and that physique is now lean and muscular.”
And for those fans wishing they could have their chance at the tall, dark and handsome 35-year-old, you might have missed the boat. Joe elaborates on his time making Magic Mike saying that the cast “man-handled groups of 200 female extras every day,” adding, “there are guys who are going to divorce their wives after they see what they did as extras in this movie.” We don’t doubt it!
