Canadian-born stars Jay Baruchel and Alison Pill announced they were engaged to be married back in May 2011, but today ET Canada has learned the couple has in fact called it quits.
The couple was to marry in September 2012, but they never ended up tying the knot. And “The Newsroom” star, Alison, confirmed to us over the weekend at the PaleyFest in Beverly Hills that there will not be a wedding for the pair. When we asked the actress if she could give us a wedding update, she told us “there will be none.”
Meanwhile, Jay’s rep did not return our calls for comment on the matter, but the actor did seem on fine form when he was on stage in Toronto last night at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Back in 2011 after he proposed, Jay told ET Canada: “I was going to give her a ring, and I wasn’t sure… I wasn’t ready in my heart to say what it was.” He explained that the 180-year-old engagement ring was originally meant to be a Christmas gift to Alison, but when he gave it to her he “said… ‘f*** it, will you marry me?’”
