After starring in “Rookie Blue” for three years, Gregory Smith takes his seat in the director’s chair for tonight’s episode, a thriller about a drug kingpin.

“I’ve been having a blast,” he tells ET Canada about his directorial debut, admitting he didn’t get a wink of sleep the night before. “It’s incredibly stressful and taxing.”

But, having worked with the cast for so long as an actor definitely put him at an advantage. “Then when you nail it and you go in there and ‘that was awesome’ and you give them a pound, that’s what it’s all about,” he continues.

And his colleagues have nothing but words of praise for him in his new role. “He’s very actor-friendly in terms of getting performances out of everybody,” reveals Missy Peregrym. “I mean, he’s just included everybody and collaborated in this whole process.”
