We’ll that’s it for summer! Time to pack away the shorts, tanks, flip-flops and get ready to pull out those cozy sweaters and stylish coats. Yes, the best part of fall is the fashion and we went straight to the pros to get tips on this season’s latest trends.
Just before Dsquared2′s design duo, Dean and Dan Caten, headed back to Milan for their upcoming spring 2013 show, they spilled some valuable fashion secrets. “The most important thing about fall or winter, is you need to invest in a very expensive coat and very good shoes and a bag,” the twins advise. “Because everything else underneath you can fake.” That’s great advice according to ET Canada‘s very own Wardrobe Director, Maggie Bill, who says she’s “always loved the maxi coat, which is long… military inspired and cinched at the waist.”
Model and fierce fashionista, Stacey McKenzie, has also had lots of practice keeping stylish in the harsh Canadian winters and says she’s coveting capes for the fall. “A fly black leather cape, or a cashmere one,” she says with a wink. “I just love capes, that’s why I’m trying to sell you on them!” Stacey also has her eye on some long gloves for that perfect complement to a fashionable coat. And it just so happens that Dsquared2 debuted some bright orange and oxblood coloured gloves this autumn, topping off their ’60s inspired collection.
The ’60s and ’70s are back in a big way this season! But while not everyone’s ready for the gaudy comebacks, Stacey says she is: “I love the suit sets, I’m tacky like that… Marc Jacobs has the suit sets with the patterns. I’m feeling that.”
Maggie on the other hand, says the average person might want to try a retro look that’s easier to pull off. “What they’re bringing back, that’s an easier fashion, is the shift dress,” she explains. “Or what we called back in the day, on Carnaby Street, the sack dress.” This is one of Twiggy’s signature looks and its boxy silhouette is pretty forgiving on most body types.
