Eva Mendes is hot, hot, hot on the cover of Marie Clarie‘s February issue. The 37-year-old actress opens up about taking on new acting roles and wanting to be seen as more than just a pretty face. In her latest movie “Girl in Progress” Mendes takes a step back from the glitz and glam to play a single mother who’s more immature than her teenage daughter.

“She’s a disaster, a mess, which I really love,” says Mendes of her character.

Taking on a role of a narcissistic mother is Mendes’ next step to being taken more seriously and joining her idols Julianne Moore and Annette Bening. “I have a girl crush on them. I’d kill to have half the careers they’ve had after 40,” she says of the actresses.

The very private star chats briefly about her relationship with hunk, Ryan Gosling saying only “He’s your dream costar. I have never felt so creatively satisfied on a film.”

But when it comes to her desirable body, she has a lot more to say: “It doesn’t matter what you have or what you look like. It’s something everyone has to work at. I realize I have contributed to a certain happy, healthy, empowered image, but that’s not all of me. I feel it’s important to let women know that I have similar struggles,” she says. When I am complimented on things that I didn’t like when I was 13, like my overbite and my mole, that’s when you realize that your imperfections are why people love you.”
