Emma Watson turns the page on Harry Potter starring as a precocious free-spirited teenager in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. And in a brand new interview with ET Canada, the British starlet reveals she felt an immediate connection to the character Sam, the moment she read the script. “It made me cry, I was laughing out loud I didn’t put it down,” she reveals. “It was so weird and I felt so strongly that I had to do the project.”
Emma takes a cue from Sam, who she calls “the world’s best flirt” and “very fun,” buy relishing in her college experience at Brown University: “I have played Beer Pong, I have been to a frat party. It’s been an adventure!”
The book “Perks”, as the actress affectionately calls it, has ignited controversy for its depiction of drug use and teen sexuality. But, Emma thinks the subject matter is totally appropriate for the fans who have grown up with Harry Potter, saying they are probably “ready for something that is a little darker.” She has a real soft spot for Sam who is “outgoing, but also has this vulnerable, insecure dark side” and she hopes Hermione fans will grow to love Sam as much as she does.
