“If I didn’t like that one word, I wouldn’t release the record,” Barbra Streisand said of her days way back when of recording albums. “Because in those days… we did take one, take two, take three. We made albums in three days. Twelve songs. We didn’t have this digital way.”
Thank goodness for her perfectionism, because now Barbra has a case full of unreleased material that she’s sharing with the world. Release Me is a collection of songs recorded in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s and the record has a special treat for fans – a brand new song titled “If It’s Meant To Be”. The album has already been released on vinyl and is coming out on CD October 9.
Reflecting on the album, Barbra says: “The thing I’m happiest about is that I still have great affection for all these songs. They appealed to me at the time… and still do. Listening now, I actually think to myself, ‘The girl wasn’t half bad.’”
With the exception of two songs, all the tracks on the album have been transferred from first generation master tapes. The album includes a version of Randy Newman’s “I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today”, which features Barbra on vocals and Newman on piano from the Stoney End sessions in 1971.
