From Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj to Micheal Jackson and Paul McCartney, unlikely duets in the music biz are pretty much the norm, but the Barenaked Ladies now take the cake for out there, and we mean way out there, collaborations. Frontman Ed Robertson has been working with astronaut Chris Hadfield who’s currently aboard the International Space Station, on the song “I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing?),” as part of Music Monday this May, an initiative to promote of music education and the Canadian space program.
To perform the song, the Barenaked Ladies were joined by the Wexford Gleeks from Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts here on planet Earth while Commander Hadfield strummed and sang his part from space, and we’ve got to tell you, this spaceman has skills!
The former Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot made headlines just yesterday for his satellite chat with Captain Kirk aka William Shatner, and he will become the first Canadian to command the orbiting space laboratory in March.
